    Heritage and Urban Development: Reflections on the Preservation of Traditional Urban Centers in a Context of Modernization. Case of the Medina of Bou-Saâda.

    The built environment of traditional urban centers, such as the medina of Bou-Saada, is undergoing rapid urbanization, threatening its heritage integrity. Our study applies space syntax to analyze urban dynamics and identify factors contributing to degradation. The results reveal a diversity of spaces: some renovated, others abandoned. This heterogeneity requires a targeted approach balancing modernization and preservation. Integrating traditional spaces into a coherent urban planning strategy would ensure balanced development. Our recommendations aim to preserve cultural identity while addressing contemporary urban needs. The medina of Bou-Saada exemplifies these challenges, highlighting the necessity of a sustainable strategy to ensure its longevity amid urban transformations.
