to investigate family change concerning gender in the Algerian family,
highlighting relationships, roles, jobs and power. Within its theoretical
framework, this study tackled a theoretical treatment of family dynamics and a
sociological background to social, family and gender change. The two variables
of the study were also linked to determine the relationship between them. The
field study was conducted in Shariah City, Tebesa Province, using the
descriptive approach, which is the appropriate approach for this study, and
relying on questionnaire to collect data from the families under study. In the
analysis, we relied on the statistical variable SPSS as well as the qualitative
analysis of the data. The sample consisted of 150 families in which couples
were investigated: 150 husbands and 150 wives. Finally, we concluded a
series of findings, the most important of which are:
- Gender relations have changed in the Algerian families, and they have
become more inclined to friendship, cooperation and partnership.
- Family change has affected gender roles and functions, and has led to the
intervention of other parties in the performance of these functions.
- Family change has led to the family power being shared between spouses.
- The social status of the wife has made the couple in a state of shared
power.
