Historically, zawiyas and kuttabs have been foundational institutions in Islamic societies, responsible for instilling Islamic values, teaching the Quran, and shaping the cultural and religious identity of children—especially in the Maghreb region. With the rise of digital media as a dominant means of learning and communication, the environment in which children are raised has drastically changed. This shift has impacted the traditional role of these institutions. The study explores various digital challenges such as screen addiction, cyberbullying, attention disorders, and the weakening of family and social interaction—all of which pose serious threats to proper child development. Despite these challenges, the research highlights examples of zawiyas and kuttabs that have attempted to adapt to the digital age by incorporating technological tools such as smart boards, educational apps, and distance learning platforms. It also discusses successful digital initiatives in Morocco and Egypt, indicating the potential for harmonizing tradition with modernity. The study concludes that maintaining the relevance of zawiyas and kuttabs in contemporary education requires a thoughtful renewal of their methods and tools, without compromising their core values.
