Abstract

Clinical examination does not end in the veterinarian’s office; it continues in the laboratory. This practical handbook in medical biochemistry is intended to assist fourth-year veterinary students (clinical year) in performing biochemical analyses, which may become part of their routine practice in the future. Its aim is to facilitate laboratory work in medical biochemistry, to improve understanding of results, enhance their interpretation, and ultimately support more accurate diagnosis. This practical handbook for medical biochemistry, designed for fourth-year veterinary students, is organized into seven sessions: spectrophotometric assays, enzyme activity measurement, calcium determination, electrophoresis, thin-layer chromatography, radioimmunological methods, and urinalysis. It also includes a review of key concepts in clinical biochemistry as well as an overview of laboratory equipment. L’examen clinique ne se limite pas au cabinet vétérinaire ; il est complété et approfondi par les investigations de laboratoire. Ce manuel de travaux pratiques en biochimie médicale est conçu pour accompagner les étudiants en médecine vétérinaire de 4ᵉ année (cycle clinique) dans la réalisation d’analyses biochimiques, lesquelles constituent un élément essentiel de la démarche diagnostique en pratique courante. Son objectif principal est de faciliter le travail au laboratoire de biochimie clinique, de renforcer la rigueur analytique et de favoriser une interprétation précise des données biochimiques afin d’améliorer la qualité du diagnostic.

Ce manuel est structuré en sept séances pratiques : le dosage spectrophotométrique, la détermination de l’activité enzymatique, la quantification du calcium, les techniques d’électrophorèse, la chromatographie sur couche mince, les méthodes radio-immunologiques et l’analyse des urines. Il comprend également un rappel des concepts fondamentaux en biochimie clinique, ainsi qu’une présentation des principaux équipements et instruments de laboratoire.
