Abstract

The knowledge economy is defined as the production and services based on knowledge-intensive activities that contribute to an accelerated pace of technological and scientific advancement, as well as rapid obsolescence. The key component of the knowledge economy is a greater reliance on intellectual capabilities than on physical inputs or natural resources. Much evidence, drawn from patent data, has documented the upsurge in knowledge production, and this growth is driven by the emergence of new industries. The study aimed to address the key indicators of the knowledge economy, concluding that the shift towards a knowledge based economy has become a pressing necessity in our present time, especially given the current conditions necessitated by globalization, coupled with the scientific and technological advancements witnessed in media and communication. Furthermore, analyzing and monitoring these indicators contributes to understanding and evaluating the transformation of the economy towards knowledge, identifying strengths and weaknesses, and guiding policies and strategies
