Abstract

In the Algerian context, the child's identity is a structural foundation in the formulation and formation of his personality. In its essence, it is a set of intertwined dimensions that the child gradually acquires from his environment throughout the stages of his development (personal dimension, cultural dimension, social dimension, religious dimension, etc.) that are rooted in his local environment. These dimensions overlap with each other under the influence of several factors that threaten this identity structure - especially in light of the challenges that the digital environment produces due to the unlimited openness to the virtual world. Where this child is exposed to digital content that disrupts the process of forming his identity, and Algerian society, like other contemporary societies, is witnessing a remarkable growth in rapidly circulating digital content known as the “trend” phenomenon, which is a prominent manifestation of the socio-cognitive transformation in the contemporary communication space, where it is often promoted through a unified hashtag, where it varies between phrases and words, pictures, jokes, clothing, dance, ..... etc. Although the trend phenomenon has become a standard for interaction for a short period of time, its effects may be deep and long-lasting. Within this context, this research paper sought to identify the impact of the digital trend phenomenon on the identity of the Algerian child, by presenting educational approaches that focus on analyzing the duality of reception behavior and the tendency to imitate, as they are two pivotal dualities in the child’s interaction with the contents of the digital trend. Especially since children are in the process of identity formation and are exposed to "trend" influences that are outside the local value context, their identity becomes effectively threatened. In the long term, this could lead to the birth of a generation suffering from an identity gap, identity dislocation, and the erosion of the child's original identity.
