Résumé:
Conformity certificates originated in the West to ensure halal food for Muslims. Specialized organizations were mandated to oversee the meat marketed for Islamic consumption by affixing a seal indicating that it is halal meat. With the disappearance of borders between countries and the increasing reliance on meat and its derivatives imports, Islamic countries have in turn imposed a requirement for imports to be accompanied by certificates guaranteeing that they are halal and permissible for Muslim consumption.
