برزت الحرب اللاتماثلية كوجه متطور من الحرب .تدور رحاها في بيئة استراتيجية مختلفة عن البيئات القتالية التقليدية، تتميز بتغير طبيعة الفواعل ومسرح العاليات القتالية مع زيادة ضبابية الحرب بالشكل الذي يحول دون معرفة من يقاتل؟ وأين يقاتل؟ ومن أجل من؟، كما تختلف كذلك في طبيعة التقنيات القتالية المعتمدة والمتنوعة بين الحديثة والتقليدية المستحدثة. وتعد الطائرات دون طيار أبرز الأدوات القتالية المعتمدة والتي تعتبر وفق العديد من المعطيات التكنولوجية الأكثر ملائمة للتعامل مع التهديدات الأمنية والحرب الجديدة مقارنة بالطائرات التقليدية، كون حرب اليوم لم يعد بطلها العسكري" الجندي"بل الذكاء الإصطناعي والطائرات دون الطيار التي أصبح امتلاكها أمرا ضروريا لكل الجيوش ما يفسر التنافس والسباق بين الدول لإقتناء وتطوير هذه التقنية كالولايات المتحدة؛ وروسيا؛ االصين؛ واسرائيل..ألخ. لأجل ذلك، سعت هذه المقالة للبحث في أكثر المواضيع إثارة للجدل في الفترة الحالية في الأوساط الأكادمية المهتمة بالشؤون العسكرية، وهو إستخدام الطائرات دون طيار كتقنية قتالية في الحرب اللاتماثلية، وقد جاء هذا الموضوع بهدف فهم المعايير التي تم الإعتماد عليها سواء من قبل الدول أو الجهات الفاعلة اللاتماثلية عند اختيار هذه التقنية كوسيلة قتالية أساسية في سياق الحرب اللاتماثلية.
