Résumé: Functionalism is a trend that emerged with the Prague School, and its first founder was William Mathesius in 1926 AD, who explained on the principle that the main function of language is “communication,” as its mission is the process of communication that brings it out of the minds to the external milieu thanks to sounds. And its concept developed later with Simon Dick, where the meaning of the function for him was not limited to the role of communication only, but rather was conditioned by the mixing of three elements - semantics, structure, and pragmatics - that make the discourse more accurate, given that its parties are united by a dialogue relationship in which the sentence is based in an unusual way The intention of the speaker is the one that determines the arrangement of that structure and directs the meaning of the desired.
