Abstract

Over the years, mass media has achieved a huge revolution in the light of the new globalization in almost all the fields. The results of which have given a broad openness on information and communication technology, that embodied a new informational reality across geographical and territorial boundaries. This latter has given hand to a set of challenges threatening the national identities which influenced directly and importantly the value system The present study aims at seeking out the implications of both new media and social networking sites and their effects in changing many of the human concepts and behaviors, particularly in the context of globalization that seeks to produce and create a one mould and stereotype for people all over the world. Subsequently, it will address the impact of using Facebook as a social network site on the national values in the light of media and globalization. For deciphering the relationship between these different variables, as it obviously takes the topic of citizenship as a central term in mass media coverage, which gained an important economic, social and political impetus around the Arab world and its relation to new media and social networking sites in particular. Its speech has surpassed the religious, cultural and social limits giving a new horizon to intellectual and cultural issues which opened up a room for a fruitful debate and theorizing. Accordingly, the present study is briefly structured into several chapters; starting from an introductory conceptual analysis which gives a detailed account of the analysis of different key terms used in the study such as citizenship and social networking sites. Besides, it provides a general overview of new media as a theoretical convergence in order to clarify what it is, its appearance and development that gives hand to the various social networking sites. Then, the researcher will try to find out the relationship that exists between the variables of the study through facebook and citizenship principles, clarifying in the same way the impact of this latter on its users and the society as a whole, reaching by the end to citizenship as a concept, and the dialectical relationship between new media and its users, facebook specifically. And it finally closes with a general conclusion that sums up the whole work
