The discovery of fifteen natural nuclear reactor zones in Gabon (West Africa) remains a mystery event where chain fission reactions took place spontaneously 2 billion years ago and have been sustained for quite a long time in a natural environment without any human contribution. The operation of the natural reactors depends upon the existence of conditions suitable to sustain fission we cite: a high concentration of uranium with abundance of 235U , a large amount of water in the pores and the absence or near absence of neutron poisons. These conditions opened the way to many researches most of which were focused on the zones of the first sector (zone 1 to 6) especially the largest zone RZ2, but the simulations that were available at that time could not explain the occurrence of criticality in the smallest reactor RZ9 and the other zones 7 and 8 for the second sector. Most recently, the application of the Monte Carlo code MCNP has allowed for the first time to explain the occurrence of criticality in such reactor. All the previous works were based on a parametric studies. In the present work, we suggest a new approach to investigate the criticality occurrence conditions in RZ9 using analytical expressions relating the effective multiplication factor   eff k and the most influential parameters based on the diffusion theory with two groups. The dependence of eff k on the influential parameters was investigated by means of the design of experiments method in order to establish a new set of limit values corresponding to critical configurations.
