Achieving food security is a goal pursued by most countries in light of the current global economic transformations, which pose multiple challenges across various political, economic, and social spheres. This is particularly true for developing countries, including Arab nations, whose governments have formulated a range of policies through an integrated system of measures and legislations. These wereenacted to achieve specific objectives, primarily the development and enhancement of the agricultural sector’s performance, ensuring the dimensions of food security, and addressing challenges that affect the stability of the food system, with the ultimate aim of reaching higher levels of self-sufficiency and increasing export coverage of imports. This is done in parallel with narrowing the gap between food demand and production, both in the present and in the future.Therefore, this research paper aims to study and evaluate various policies and programs adopted to achieve sustainable agricultural development and food security, both on an individual level and within the framework of regional cooperation in a sample of Arab countries, including Algeria, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and Bahrain, during the period from 2000 to 2021. The study is based on specialized global food security indicators provided by the Economist Intelligence Unit and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations.

دور وسائل الإعلام في ترويج الممارسات الزراعية المستدامة لتحقيق الاكتفاء الذاتي

The intervention addressed the role of media in promoting sustainable agricultural practices as an effective means to achieve food self-sufficiency. It highlighted the importance of media as a vital tool for raising awareness and enhancing knowledge among farmers and consumers about the multiple benefits of sustainable agriculture. Media plays a pivotal role in shedding light on modern technologies and environmental practices that can help improve agricultural production and reduce the impacts of climate change. Through educational programs, articles, and awareness campaigns, media contributes to the easy dissemination of information, helping farmers understand how to adopt more sustainable farming methods and encouraging consumers to support these practices by choosing local products. Furthermore, media fosters community dialogue, allowing for the exchange of ideas and experiences, and encourages active participation from all stakeholders. Ultimately, this media role represents a fundamental step towards achieving food security and promoting sustainable development in agricultural communities.

إسهام الجامعات في تعزيز المعارف الزراعية لتحقيق تنمية زراعية مستدامة

This study aims to analyze the role of universities in enhancing agricultural knowledge to achieve sustainable development through the application of the knowledge triangle: scientific research, education, and agricultural extension. The study employs a descriptive-analytical method to explore the relationship between higher education and the agricultural sector in developing countries, with a focus on the impact of universities in improving agricultural practices and preserving natural resources. The findings indicate that universities, through scientific research and partnerships with farmers, contribute effectively to solving agricultural challenges and promoting sustainable development, thereby supporting food security and reducing poverty in rural areas.

الاكتفاء الذاتي ووسائل الإعلام الزراعي بين- الإرشاد والتوجيه

This intervention provides a description of the role of agricultural media in achieving self-sufficiency, focusing on the methods and tools used in this context. Self-sufficiency is one of the major challenges faced by most countries worldwide, as everyone seeks to achieve it to ensure regional and global strength and existence while overcoming the dependency created by its absence. Agricultural media is one of the most significant means available to influence and educate the public, contributing to the development of a culture oriented towards agricultural development and the pursuit of self-sufficiency. Through our study of this topic using a descriptive approach and observational tools, we found that agricultural media relies on a variety of guidance and advisory methods aimed at achieving self-sufficiency. This includes print agricultural journalism in the form of newspapers and magazines, as well as radio and television, which have a substantial impact on rural communities. The agricultural audience is primarily located in rural areas where these media are still popular, helping to shift their attitudes, increase their ambitions, and encourage them to acquire new skills, preparing them for change and development.
